MUSINGS AT GRADE 2A
Grade 2 had a unique experience selecting their senate member based on the learning profile attributes. Students explored the concept of measurement which included several topics like non – standard and standard measurement, length and breadth. This was done through various interesting activities and learning strategies like estimation compare and contrast using Venn diagram, interactive videos, story telling etc. Students made connections on how different locations and climate influences the types of homes. This was done through an engaging ‘map marking’ activity wherein they identified the models of different types of homes and mapped them across the continents. Students also gained knowledge about the climate and types of houses in Russia through a guest lecture led by Ms. Elena. The story of the 'Three little pigs' was shown to the students post which they recorded their reflection on a story map. Students enhanced their thinking and writing skills by attempting a picture composition wherein they chose a picture and wrote a short paragraph about it. They also developed their thinking and social skills via activities like ‘predict and retell’ a story. In their dance class they had fun trying the Jazz dance form. In their Hindi classes, students discussed the essential agreements and the learner profile through stories like 'Imaandaar lakadhara' and 'Bakaree ka bachcha aur bhediya'. They revised maatraas and watched a video related to 'kachchaa ghar' (mud house) and wrote words related to the same. Students enjoyed the story 'Kuwein kaa paanee' and reinforced their knowledge about kachcha ghar. They also did a comprehension to reflect their understanding to the same. In ICT students were introduced to PicCollage an ipad application to create a digital collage. They created a collage of images that documented their learning process and led to a colourful stimulation for reflection on their favourite Olympians. In their Ab-initio classes the students learned the letter ‘ba’ and illustrated the objects, animals etc. that started with the letter. They also learned about the colours and their names in hindi.
