MUSINGS AT GRADE 2A
The students marked the grandparents day by posting their handwritten post cards to their grandparents. They innocently penned down their thoughts and shared their special feelings for them. They excitedly visited the post office to personally post their cards. Pursuing the 3rd line of Inquiry – ‘Homes reflect personal identities’, under the current unit homes, guest lectures were conducted by teachers Ms. Deepa and Ms Snigdha. The teachers represented different cultures and spoke about how personal identities reflect in the homes they live. Each lecture was followed by a reflection done by the students in their process journals. This was followed by a brief discussion on different income groups and students were shown how to draw and plan a 2D layout of a house. Students also attempted a formative assessment wherein they had to decorate a given layout of the house with pictures. The unit was concluded with a Summative assessment and a final reflection. In the English classes the concepts of punctuation, common and proper nouns were further strengthened through various classroom engagements. Spell bee was conducted and students enhanced their writing skills by creating meaningful sentences of the chosen words. They also read a poem ‘Bless my home’ by Helen Taylor thereby working on their thinking skills by explaining the meaning of the poem. In their Math classes the students revisited concepts like number bonds, comparing numbers, ascending and descending order, place value and face value through various classroom activities and practiced these concepts in their process journals and task sheets. The concept of odd and even numbers was strengthened wherein the students attempted interesting task sheets and various activities with real life connect. Students later attempted a formative assessment to evaluate their understanding of the concepts. In their Hindi classes the students read and discussed the story 'Rohan ka ghar'. They also learnt and recited the poem 'oont chalaa' and found out ‘milte-julte shabd’ (rhyming words) from the same. Students enjoyed ‘paheliyaan’ (riddles), tongue twisters and Stapoo during Hindi saptaah (week). In ICT students learnt to use keywords for internet search related to their unit of inquiry on different types of homes across the globe. They explored various tools in Photo story 3 to create an audio visual presentation and were proud to create a digital story in a form of a movie. In ab initio class students learnt akshar ‘Ka’,'Gha' and ‘Ma’, practicing to write and illustrate them. They also did an activity on matching the names of colours to thrir respective colours. In Art the students inquired about the artist ‘Claude Monet’ and were exposed to his work on landscapes. They created various types of landscapes with pencil and wax colours and used different patterns and shapes. In P.E the students strengthened their skills of dribbling, passing and shooting while practising basketball and football. In the Music class, students were observed on their music skills while singing “teri hai zameen". Students did a lot of strengthening workouts, which included abdomen and rhythm workouts. Students are learning street jazz ensuring compliance to basic jazz elements like isolations and style in their dance classes.
