MUSINGS AT GRADE 2A
Kids had a fun-filled time at the camp and returned with the wonderful memories to cherish till their next camp. Students pursued the third line of inquiry ‘use of machines while processing food’ in their current unit ‘food’. They gained knowledge on the machines used while processing different food items. Students watched educational videos on how some of their favourite food items like jam ,cakes and juices are processed in factories with the help of machines. A group discussion was conducted on the importance and use of machines during bulk production of food items. Students later reflected their understanding by illustrating and writing in their process journals .Students strengthened their previously gained knowledge on processed and unprocessed food through activities like ‘identify-name-reflect’ where the students had sort different food items as per processed and unprocessed foods using the Venn-diagram learning strategy. Students gained knowledge on how to read food labels and captured their observations on the ‘Y-chart’. Students enhanced their social and communication skills through a debate conducted on a food related topic. In their English classes students wrote a paragraph on how they spent their time during the midterm break, they were instructed to use verbs to express themselves. Students enhanced their comprehension skills through an activity wherein they read the story on Halloween and later interpreted it by attempting a questionnaire. Students were assessed on their spellings through a spell bee. Their communication skills were enhanced through an extempore session wherein they had to speak on a given topic. In their Math classes, students strengthened their understanding of fractions through various activities like playing interactive online games , using the ‘jodo gyaan’ kit to create different fractions .Students also attempted a formative assessment through a ‘Fraction Bingo’ activity. A cut and paste activity was conducted where they had to match and paste the fraction with the corresponding figure given to them. In their Hindi classes, students learnt & wrote new words from the paragraph 'Humara aahaar' . They were introduced to 'viram chihn' (punctuation marks) & 'sanyukt vyanjan' and wrote the same. Ab-Initio Hindi students revisited the previously learnt topics and enjoyed participating in knowledge based games. In the ICT classes, students were introduced to a word processing app. They learnt how to open a new file and create a document in Microsoft Word.They were encouraged to type few lines on how they celebrated Diwali/Halloween of their choice.
